Purpose and Passports

just because you COULD do more ...

happy Taco Tuesday, Reader!

someone said something to me recently that i have genuinely been marinating on all week

"if it's not checked off the list, it's not done. it doesn't count."

i get it. i do.

checklists are satisfying.

that little dopamine hit when you tick something off?

but also ... no wonder we sometimes walk around feeling like we're doing absolutely nothing?!

no wonder our nervous systems sometimes feel completely shot!

no wonder we crawl into bed at night feeling behind and somehow less than, even after a full, hard, real, beautifully messy day of showing up!

because somewhere along the way, we started measuring ourselves against a standard of "productivity" that was never designed for us.

it was designed for machines.

and babe, last time i checked, you are not a machine 😘

here's the analogy that keeps living rent free in my brain:

imagine you dump a 1,000-piece puzzle on the table

you find the corners. you sort the edges.

you get the whole outline done and you're feeling pretty good about it!

do you look at that and think "ugh, i've been doing this for an hour and done absolutely nothing!!!"?

no! of course not! you've done something.

a lot, actually!

so then why is checking off "finish puzzle" in the rest of our lives the only thing that counts?

why do we feel so0o addicted to completion sometimes that we forget to celebrate the progress along the way?

the corners count. the edges count. all that sorting counts!

progress counts. always. πŸ‘†

because here's the thing: there are probably always going to be more things on the list in life.

more laundry. more workouts. more meal prep. more emails. more tasks that didn't get a checkbox today.

that list might not ever actually be completely empty ...

and honestly? maybe that's actually okay!

right now i am navigating a whole lot of big life admin and even bigger feelings

and this is one of my 3+7 birthday lessons + the thing i keep coming back to like a little mantra:

just because you could do MORE doesn't mean you're not already doing enough.

read that one again. slowly. πŸ‘†

give yourself credit for the corners. for the edges.

for all the invisible progress that doesn't come with a checkbox.

for the hard conversation you had.

for the feelings you actually let yourself feel instead of pushing down.

for the workout you showed up for even when you really didn't feel like it but knew it was in alignment with your goals.

for the meal you cooked. for the nap your body asked for and you actually listened.

that all counts. every single bit of it.

you are a human BE-ing. not a human DO-ing, babe

and you are doing enough πŸ’•

okay now i'm curious ... are you team progress = productive ✨ or team it's not done until it's checked off πŸ“‹?

hit REPLY and let me know!
